Graveson Département 13
Graveson is a village located in the heart of the Provence region described by poet Frederic Mistral and painter Auguste Chabaud, between the Montagnette hill and the Alpilles mountain range. This little town abounds with santon makers (santons are the clay figurines representing the typical characters of Provence featured in the Nativity Scene), rich and diverse gardens, an intense botanical activity a beautiful “Montagnette” and its wild valleys. You could learn to recognise and compose fragrances at the Museum of Aromas and Perfumes, and how to make candles at the Premontres Candle Manufacture. The Aquatic Garden “Aux fleurs de l’eau” will be the perfect place for a peaceful, mesmerising break.
The Abbey of St Michel de Frigolet deserves a visit. It is located in the heart of the Montagnette, which shelters a very rich Mediterranean flora. Originally, the Abbey was a simple priory administered by Avignon. During the 13th century it was turned into an abbey, then neglected. During the 19th century it became a boarding school for young men and welcomed a student called Frederic Mistral.
