Malaucène Département 84

Incontournable !
MalaucèneThe fantastic Groseau spring has given birth to a Gallic god, a Roman monastery, mills, paper making factories, and a lively town curled up around the hill of Safre.
Malaucene, the capital of Ventoux, is built around its ancient fort, on the highest point of the village. A few gates remain from the fortified enclosure, including the Soubeyran Gate, where some say that criminals were publicly hung.
Malaucene was the summer residence of Pope Clement V, who left his mark on the town through the Saint Michel and Saint Pierre churches (of Roman and Gothic styles, respectively).
The village holds many other historic landmarks you can visit:
- The sculpted chairs and historic organ
- The Clock Tower, from 1539
- The 12th century Groseau Chapel and its spring
- The gothic church and the remains of the fortification

Also, both children and parents will love to visit the llama farm!

In July and August, the Tourist Office organises a night trek to the top of Mont Ventoux. This moonlit hike will take you to the summit just in time to see the sunrise. The meeting point is in front of the Tourist Office, Friday night at 8:30 PM. Registration before Friday 12 noon is mandatory.
