Chateauneuf-du-Pape Département 84

Overlooking the Comtadin plain and its 7000 acres vineyard, this village is almost entirely dedicated to its renowned Grand Cru.This famous bottle embossed with papal regalia and insignia is celebrated all over the world’s most distinctive tables.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a charming town suited for a bucolic pilgrimage.
During the time of the Avignon papacy, it was the popes’ favourite place to escape the city’s turmoil.
The popes turned this peaceful provencal village into a glorious wine heritage location. The production remained confidential for a long time, then started to be known during the 18th century and became widely respected in 1929 when it was awarded the title “Appellation d’Origine” Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Fallen into ruin, the castle overlooks the village. It is a pleasure to stroll in the little winding streets, with beautiful fountains. You will discover its Romanesque churches, the old bread oven, the olive mill and the numerous wine tasting cellars from different estates.
As you arrive to the castle, you will see the vineyards that never stopped growing since the 14th century, and, in the background, the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Mont Ventoux.
Walking across the vineyards on a 13 km circuit, connoisseurs fond of the full-bodied red wine and white wine with flower aromas will recognise the pebble on the ground. Warmed up by the sun, the stones release the accumulated warmth at night, strengthening the vine and improving the quality of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine.
